This icon captures of one of the seminal depictions of the Passion in Christianity, reproducing a detail from a fresco within the famous Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. Painted by the renowned Italian master Giotto di Bondone in the early 14th century, the narrative depiction of the Life of Christ outlined at Scrovegni is among the most exquisite and influential Catholic works in art. This piece comes from Scene 18 of the Life of Christ in which Jesus bears the weight of the cross on the road to Calvary.
Icon measures 15" (length) x 11.75" (width). Hand painted in Italy using real gold. Please note that the "aged" appearance of the icon is intentional and meant to replicate Giotto's frescos as they exist in Italy today.
